Just after Valentine's Day 1996, a NEAR satellite left NASA's launch pad on an extended journey to Asteroid 433 Eros. Its mission: to study the mini-planet's properties and enhance our basic knowledge of the solar system. NEAR has since landed on Eros, marking the time for astrological investigation of this most intriguing body.
