Collective Unconscious

(1) The Collective Unconscious is the communal unconscious shared by all. Distinct from the personal unconscious, it does not rely on individual experience to exist. A sea of undifferentiated matter at the base of the 'ice burg' were all minds meet, it is the well spring of archetypes, myths, fairytales and creativity.

The collective unconscious contains the whole spiritual heritage of mankind's evolution, born anew in the brain structure of every individual.[The Structure of the Psyche," CW 8, par. 342.]
